The Singing Hedgehog Guide to:
Prime Factors 7 - Fractions
If we know the prime factors of a number we can use them to simplify fractions quickly and easily.
Example: Use prime factors to simplify 600 ÷ 420
We know from before that:
600 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 5, and
420 = 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 7, so we have:
2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 5
2 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 7
cancelling gives:
2 x 5
7
which equals:
13/7
